CEBU CITY – The regional office of the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA 7) has recently announced that 164 cooperatives in the region have been recently dissolved.

CDA 7 acting director Marilyn Estrella in an interview said that the 164 cooperatives were dissolved for failing to submit the required two year cooperative report.

However, Estrella said that the 164 cooperatives can still be activated if they can comply with the requirements for activation, which needs additional payment. (more…)

Apparently, if you used direct debit to pay any taxes you owed…. you cannot use direct deposit to get your rebate.

Um? Why?

No one told me. Not even TurboTax, which asked me for both sets of information. Even though the first one made me ineligible for the second one.

I suppose that knowing that I’m probably getting a paper rebate check now is better than assuming the IRS screwed up on my rebate deposit. But instead of getting it May 9 I’m due to get it after June 27. (Yeah, yeah, dial 922, I know.)

It looks like Yahoo Publisher Network (YPN) is gearing towards expanding its territory beyond US as there have been reports where Yahoo has been getting in touch with publishers in India and getting their feedback on contextual ads and specially Google Adsense Program. and also want it can do to improve its proposed Yahoo publisher network program in India.

Of late Indian market has been getting considerable interest from internet majors and both Yahoo & Google have large development centers in India. Even AOL is expected to launch an Indian dedicated website sometime by the end of year 2007.

At present, internet advertising space in India is dominated by Google Adwords/ Adsense program, being main choice for all major advertisers. The other players are either the extension of brick & mortal advertising agencies like MediaTurf or Group M or new startups with marginal share of overall market.

Thus entry of Yahoo publishing network is certainly going to create some buzz in the market and will provide alternative to publishers.

Id been following this via various media sources for tha last few weeks and could see that this was coming , according to Bloomberg report , share holders got $36 dollars a share.

The reason this company is so high valued was one reason with a link to some propaganda a few years ago regarding Bush.

Today (Thursday) the Knight Center of Digital Excellence was launched in Akron, Ohio. I am deeply invested in the vision and language of Digital Excellence, and I hope the Center lives up to it’s name. Some words of wisdom for those undertaking this mission:

The path towards excellence starts with purpose, and not with technology. Be clear in your purpose, be strong in resolve, be prepared to fall and rise again. Digital is a word that often gets in the way: Strive first and always for human excellence and towards our higher individual and collective purposes. Excellence is a matter of character.

The Chicago Digital Access Alliance put this vision before our City, a vision of great ambition. We echo the historic Chicago mantra: Make no small plans. Has Chicago missed an opportunity? No. We have not. Not if we yet take up the challenge and establish what has been called for: A Digital Excellence Trust.

The wind left our sails when the Chicago wireless plans were put on hold. It was fortuitous that the vendor-driven segmented-technology model fell through, but the call for Digital Excellence didn’t have to stop there. We’re the windy city and our model was never tied to wireless technology. We have Olympic aspirations and Greenest-city-in-the-world goals. On Jan 23, 2006, the FDA advisory committee shall review an application by GlaxoSmithKline (NYSE: GSK) to sell Orlistat (Xenical) in the over-the-counter market. If given the go-ahead, it will be the only FDA-approved weight-loss drug to achieve an over-the-counter status.

This would be a shot in the arm for GSK, which is up against potentially new competition from other drug companies like Sanofi Aventis (NYSE: SNY). SNY’s much-discussed weight-loss drug Acomplia has shown better results during trials.

Currently, Xenical has only one competitor - Meridia from Abbott Labs (NYSE: ABT). While Meridia is an appetite suppressant which deceives the brain, Xenical works in the digestive system to block about one-third of the fat in the food from being digested.
